Bore, Wine

Appears in
Oxford Companion to Wine

  • About
For some reason, wine bores exist in public consciousness and, it has to be said, in reality in a more vividly pestilential way than art bores, music bores, or even sport bores. Perhaps this is because for most people wine is associated with sensual pleasure rather than analysis and verbal communication and so their wine-related boredom threshold is low. So far, wine bores are usually men, although women wine bores may be an eventual consequence of female financial emancipation. One woman’s wine bore can be another person’s wine expert, however.
