canopy, that part of the vine above the ground, formed by the leaf and shoot system. It includes the trunk, cordon or canes, shoots, leaves, and fruit. It is a term borrowed from forestry, and was first used for grapevines by Professor Nelsonshaulis of cornell university. See canopy management.
