Catawba, deep pink-skinned American grape variety that was extremely popular in the 19th century and is still grown to a certain extent, particularly in new york State. Identified in North Carolina in 1802, even before concord, it produces white and pink, still and sparkling rather foxy wines from dry to very sweet.
