The dominant wine producer in Latin America was founded in Pirque, chile, in 1883 by Don Melchor Concha y Toro, a prominent businessman and politician. Its 2014 total of 10,750 ha/26,564 acres made it one of the worldâs leading vineyard owners. Since the mid 20th century efforts have been focused on modernization and developing export markets.
The Casillero del Diablo (âthe Devilâs Cellarâ) brand is one of the worldâs most successful with global sales of over 3.8 million cases annually (1.3 million of which are in the UK).
