Franschhoek or Franschhoek Valley, important wine district in the Coastal Region of south africa and home to many historic cellars. Established in the late 17th century to accommodate the influx of French Huguenots (the name means ‘French Corner’), it is an important tourism centre within easy driving distance of Cape Town.
