Gredos, mountain range 80 km west of Madrid in spain in which are parts of three appellations in three political regions, Vinos de madrid, méntrida in Castilla–La Mancha, and Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla y León (Cebreros sector) in Castilla y León. They form a specific viticultural area which one day may have its own appellation. Small vineyards in the mountains are planted with old Garnacha and albillo Real vines with some Garnacha Blanca on granite and slate soils. A group of young growers began revitalizing the region in the early years of this century.
