Grosse Lage, term adopted in 2013 by Germany’s vdp association for those vineyards classified by its members as their best and hence capable of generating a grosses gewächs. Prior to that, the term erste lage was used for such vineyards, but has been used from 2013 for a lesser tier of vineyards (effectively the premiers crus, with Grosse Lagen being the grands crus).
