Historic Vineyard Society, was formed in northern California in 2010 to preserve the state’s rich heritage of old vines by carefully assembling a registry of those planted before 1960 (although some date from the 19th century). The society was inspired by the speed with which historic vineyards were grubbed up to make way particularly for fashionable Pinot Noir in Sonoma in the wake of the film sideways.
