Jaen, Jaen Tinto, and Jaen du Dão, synonym for the mencía red wine grape in Portugal’s dão region, where it ripens early to produce deep-coloured wines that are notable for their lack of acidity. Occasionally seen as a varietal, it is normally stiffened with Touriga Nacional and Alfrocheiro. The vine, planted on a total of 2,747 ha/6,785 acres in northern Portugal in 2013, is identical to Galicia’s Mencía. Jaén Blanco is a synonym for cayetana Blanca.
