As in the German Mosel, the average vine-holding is extremely small—3.62 ha/9 acres in 2013—although it is gradually increasing as more and more of the smallest holdings are sold to larger landowners. The number of growers more than halved during the 20 years up to 2013, to 357. Almost 30% of vines are grown by independent domaines which make wine themselves. Several wine co-operatives together function as Vinsmoselle and represent 59% of the Grand Duchy’s wine production.
