Most winemaking operations other than tasting and overseeing individual barrels can be fully mechanized, but mechanization has been much slower to invade the vineyard. Robotic technology is used, for example, in the production of port, in the movement of pallets around the winery, and in the preparation of grape samples. For more details of viticultural mechanization, see mechanical harvesting, mechanical pruning, triage, and, most importantly, labour.
