State and national wine shows are important to the wine trade in australia, but a Hobart gold medal may be reckoned less glamorous than a Canberra silver. In France, medals awarded by the fairs in Paris and Mâcon are usually indications of real quality, as are those awarded in Germany by the Deutscher Landwirtschaft Gesellschaft, or DLG.
