Spanish and Portuguese for muscat. The term may be applied to both grape varieties and wines. Thus Moscatel de Grano Menudo is none other than muscat blanc à petits grains, while Moscatel de Alejandría, Moscatel de Málaga, and Moscatel Romano are muscat of alexandria. Moscatel Rosado, on the other hand, may be a South American speciality (see below). Most of the vines known simply as Moscatel in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries are Muscat of Alexandria, although northern Spain has some of the superior small-seeded variety.
