Ontario

Ontario, produces the majority of canada’s wine in three designated viticultural areas: the Niagara Peninsula, best known for the dramatic Niagara Falls, Lake Erie North Shore further to the south west, and Prince Edward County. Each of these areas is in the southern part of the province between the 41st and 44th latitudes and within sight and influence of two of the Great Lakes, Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, which temper the winter cold and the heat of summer (see lake effect). In total, in 2013 Ontario grew 6,900 ha/17,000 acres of vines, of which 5,970 ha/14,746 acres were vinifera.
