  • About

Pinot Nero is Italian for pinot noir which is grown there chiefly for the spumante industry. There was a total of 5,046 ha/12,470 acres according to the 2010 vine census. The great majority is planted in the province of Pavia in lombardy, but a few producers—Hofstatter, Haas, and Gottardi—are making a name for the variety in Alto Adige. Only 388 ha were grown in Brescia, the franciacorta zone, while plantings in trentino-alto adige totalled 595 ha, presumably reflecting the growing trentodoc spumante industry.
