  • About

Plavac Mali, grape variety with an interesting genetic history producing dense red wines all along the Dalmatian coast and on many of the Adriatic islands in croatia. Mali means ‘small’ and a white grape variety called simply Plavac Žuti, also Plavec Žuti is also known, and results in tart, light wines. Both varieties thrive on sandy soil. Plavac Mali is Croatia’s leading red wine grape and produces wines high in tannins, alcohol, colour, and ageability. Postup and Dingač are two of the better-known reds made from Plavac Mali. dna profiling at davis provided evidence that Plavac Mali, once suspected of being identical to zinfandel, is a natural cross between it and Dobričić, an obscure and ancient southern Croatian variety red wine grape.
