  • About

Prädikatswein officially excludes Kabinett wine in Austria but includes, in addition to the other Prädikats, Strohwein (or ‘straw wine’, see vin de paille) and ausbruch. As commonly used in Austria, Prädikatswein refers to overtly sweet wines of Auslese or higher must weight. The following minimum kmw must weights (with equivalent Oechsle and potential alcohols) are set for Prädikatswein:

  • Spätlese 19 °KMW / 94 °Oe / 12.8%

  • Auslese 21 °KMW / 105 °Oe / 14.5%

  • Beerenauslese 25 °KMW / 127 °Oe / 18%

  • Ausbruch 27 °KMW / 139 °Oe / 19.8%

  • Trockenbeerenauslese 30 °KMW / 156 °Oe / 21.8%

  • Eiswein 25 °KMW / 127 °Oe / 18%

  • Strohwein/Schilfwein 25 °KMW / 127 °Oe / 18%
