press in a wine context usually means wine press, a particularly ancient piece of winemaking equipment, used for the pressing operation of separating grape juice or wine from solids. Wine presses or their remains provide some of the longest-surviving evidence of the origins of viniculture. In ancient times, the design of presses was varied and ingenious.
