  • About

Ratti, Renato (1934–88), industrious and dedicated winemaker based at La Morra in barolo in the north west Italian region of Piemonte. One of a group of so-called modernist Barolo producers seeking a more accessible Barolo (see barolo for more details), he was particularly keen to promulgate the notion of terroir. In 1979 he was one of the first to draw up a map of the best Barolo vineyards, or crus, which, with limitations, is still valid today.
