Regent, particularly successful dark-skinned disease-resistant variety bred at geilweilerhof in Germany and first registered in 1989. This complex hybrid of a silvaner×müller-thurgau cross with chambourcin makes wine with good colour, moderate acidity, and it reaches full ripeness easily. It is already grown on a total of more than 2,000 ha/5,000 acres in Germany, particularly Rheinhessen and Pfalz, and is also planted in Switzerland, England, Belgium, and Scandinavia.
