Rossese, name given to at least seven distinct north west Italian grape varieties, making both red and white wines in Italy where the 2010 vine census found only 7 ha/17 acres of ‘Rossese Bianco’ and 312 ha/770 acres of ‘Rossese Nero’. Rossese di Dolceaqua is the best known. This esteemed red grape variety produces distinctively perfumed varietal wines in the north west Italian region of liguria. The variety has a long history in the region and it has its own doc in western Liguria. dna profiling has shown it is the same as Provence’s tibouren.
