  • About

selfling or selfed vine, a plant created by one vine variety crossed to itself. This is not a very successful breeding strategy, since most varieties carry deleterious recessive genes, and there is consequently a strong inbreeding depression. This is avoided by crossing unrelated vines, which is a feature of successful vine breeding. See also new varieties.
