German term for a large wooden barrel, typically one with a capacity of 1,200 l/317 gal used in the rhine regions of germany. (In the mosel region the fuder is more common.) A Halbstück contains 600 l, and was commonly used for transporting wine in the pre-tanker era, while a Doppelstück contains 2,400 l.
