Terras Madeirenses, igp (Indicação Geográfica Protegida) for the unfortified wines of the island of madeira that are mostly unchallenging liquids for local consumption. Although verdelho shows great promise, plantings are limited and the competition for grapes for the island’s famous fortified wines is fierce. Attempts at producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah seem misconceived.
