thrips, tiny (1โ2 mm long), winged insects which readily feed on grapevine flowers and developing bunches, causing scarring and disfigurement of grapes by feeding on the small berries. While thrips are sometimes thought to be the cause of poor fruit set, there is little evidence to support this.
