Torbato, mid to late ripening vine variety today most obviously associated with sardinia, where varietal dry whites are produced from a grand total of under 20 ha in 2010, with particular success around Alghero.

It was once quite widely cultivated in roussillon, where it is known as tourbat, or Malvoisie du Roussillon, but was almost abandoned before new and healthier plant material was imported from Sardinia in the 1980s. As with grenache noir, known as Cannonau in Sardinia, it is believed to have been brought to the island from Spain when Sardinia was part of the AragΓ³n kingdom, but this is unproved.
