Valençay, small aoc region on the south bank of the Cher tributary of the Loire in northern France with about 180 ha/444 acres in production by 2013. Limestone, flint, and silt are planted with a wide range of loire grape varieties. Whites must be at least 70% Sauvignon Blanc (Valençay is only about 20 miles/30 km from quincy and reuilly) but crisp reds and some rosés are made from a mix of grapes dominated by Gamay.
