Xynisteri, the most common white grape variety grown on Cyprus, more than 2,200 ha/5,500 acres in 2010, almost a quarter of the island’s vineyard. It is preferred to the dark-skinned mavro for the rich fortified wine commandaria, the island’s most distinctive wine and also makes dry whites of varying quality.
