Yecla, denominated wine zone in the levante, south east Spain. Sandwiched between jumilla, alicante, and almansa (see map under spain), Yecla is dominated by La Purísima, the single largest co-operative in Spain. The red monastrell represents 85% of all grapes grown in the region. The private Bodegas Castaño is pioneering more ambitious wines by adding Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, and Merlot to Monastrell.
