Žametovka, slovenian dark-skinned grape variety most famous for a single plant. Wine made from this speciality of the Dolenjska wine region in Posavje in the south of the country has usually been an ingredient in the pale, tart, local Čvicek but in Maribor is a vast, productive 400-year-old vine that is one of the world’s oldest.
