zonal viticulture, form of precision viticulture in which vineyards are divided into zones of characteristic performance in terms of yield and/or grape composition. These are then managed as separate units with respect to selective harvesting and/or particular inputs. Typically, zones are identified either on the basis of visual inspection of yield maps, imagery acquired by remote sensing, or proximal sensing and/or maps of other vineyard attributes, simple classification of such data, or through the use of statistically based clustering algorithms.
