Dr Jean Loftus was born in County Durham. She met David’s father, Eric, on her first visit to London. He proposed to her by slipping a note into her piano music as she played Chopin. They hadn’t yet been introduced. She lived in the tower of Narworth Castle and in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ style he awaited her answer from below. A hugely popular and respected doctor, she retired after the death of her son and is currently researching her biography of Colonel Woodthorpe.
