Daniel O’Connell was born in Ireland in 1849. After emmigrating to America, O’Connell forged a career as a writer and in 1872 co-founded the Bohemian Club in San Francisco, where he spent many an evening enjoying the food, drink and artistic entertainment. In 1891, he published The Inner Man: Good Things to Eat and Drink and Where to Get Them, advice for the epicurean who found himself in the San Francisco area.
