Individual and miniature tarts, barquettes (little boat shapes), and other tiny pastries often contain the same fillings as larger pies and tarts, but always seem more delicate, in flavor as well as appearance.
Individual tartlets and other pastries differ from miniature ones only in size. An individual round pastry may be anywhere from 2 to 4 inches in diameter, larger if oval or rectangular. Miniatures are usually from 1 to 1½ inches across. An individual pastry is meant to be a single dessert portion, whereas a miniature pastry is usually part of an assortment served after dinner with coffee, or at teatime.
