  • About
A Poveira’s canning factory was founded in July 1938 as the successor to Ernoud de la Provoté Pére et Fils, Cholet, Loire Atlantique, the first fishing canning factory in Póvoa de Varzim and one of the oldest canned fish manufacturers in Portugal.
In 1945, factories in Póvoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde came together to form the Olfaixe company, with which A Poveira has been associated ever since. In 2013 A Poveira modernized its manufacturing and opened a new factory in the Parque Industrial de Laúndos in Póvoa de Varzim. This modern unit is one of the best in the Portuguese canned fish sector and is equipped with advanced technology that combines traditional production techniques – with fish being steamed cooked before canning – with sophisticated quality control.
