Conservas Belamar is a company that specialises in crafted, artisanal canned fish, and was founded in 1941 in Olhão, in the south of Portugal. Soon after, in 1945, the company moved to Vila do Conde in the north of the country to make the most of the dynamism of fishing in the region as well as the proximity of the fishing ports of Póvoa de Varzim and Matosinhos and the commercial port of Leixões. A company known for its traditional sardine, tuna and mackerel cans, it will celebrate 75 years of existence in 2016. Recent years have seen it add production of salmon, codfish, lamprey, sea bass, snook, gilthead bream and garfish. Conservas Belamar only produces cans for the Belamar brand.
