With its roots in a 1950s canning factory, the Santa Catarina brand was created in 1995, beginning a process of constant evolution that led to its entry into the tuna market in 2011 with products in oregano and in thyme.
New products are launched every year, with the brand currently boasting 12 varieties including tuna with Azores bell pepper, tuna in molho cru, tuna with sweet potato. The island of São Jorge is home to around 8,900 inhabitants, of whom 4,000 live in Calheta, where 130 people work every day at the Santa Catarina factory, making it the biggest employer on the island.
