Montreal may be the “Paris of the North” but just ask any American tourist who’s ever been there about one of this city’s most special, renowned bagel! (Not to mention the other delights such as Montreal Smoked Meat and legendary Poutine).
Montreal bagels are always made in a wood-fired bagel oven and are sweeter, enriched with honey, eggs, and oil, almost void of salt, and scaled smaller. Then they’re simmered in a honey-laced water bath. The omission of salt makes the taste of the generous sesame seed coating really shine through. Overall, these are less dense than the traditional American bagels, unique as well as memorable.
