Though they were probably first prepared to grace the tables of the aristocracy, today rolls and other individual breads are easily available and among the most popular breads all over the world. Millions of rolls are produced daily just to hold burgers, and when you add all the bagels, muffins, Kaiser rolls and hot dog rolls, it amounts to a staggering quantity.

Since they need to be formed individually, rolls are a bit of extra work compared to making a single loaf of bread, but you gain back some time because they proof and bake relatively quickly.
