How humble of me to begin with such a title. But “pride goes before the fall,” the Bible says, and this recipe really brought home that message in the following manner: When the first printing of Brother Juniper’s Bread Book appeared, there was a typo in the recipe for the self-proclaimed World’s Greatest Brownies. Instead of reading 1¼ cups of flour, it read 3¼ cups. Somehow, this slipped past all of us and when the book hit the stands, one of the recipes of which I was most proud brought, instead, distressed letters and phone calls from all over the country. The first call was from a woman who sounded as if she was in tears, pleading with me to help her figure out what she was doing wrong as she really had her heart set on these brownies.
