Fish is becoming more and more popular worldwide and is replacing meat in the diet of many. Indeed one reason for its popularity is its healthier qualities when compared to meat. In general fish contain significantly less fat than meat and the fat, or oil, they do contain has, in fact, been found to be actively beneficial.
However, with growing demand for fish there is greater pressure on available stocks and this means that finding a supply of the best fish is becoming increasingly difficult. As anxieties about the pollution of our seas and rivers grow, stocks are put under even greater pressure, so that we are now in real danger of over-fishing to such an extent that we are likely to deny ourselves this splendid natural resource in the very near future. As fish wars break out between neighbouring countries and everyone fishes to the limit of their allowance, the whole issue of fishing and eating the fruits of the sea has become a political problem. We will soon have to decide whether we can continue to gather and eat so vigorously, so we can plan to continue having the valuable stocks available to us in the future.
