Hafez, one of the greatest Persian poets, was probably born in Shiraz in 1315 and lived to be about seventy-five years old. By the time of his death, his work was known far and wide throughout the Islamic world. These days Hafez is perhaps most popular in Iran because, besides all their other qualities, his poems are an antidote to hypocrisy.
