How to Chop a Carrot

Pare the carrot with a swivel-bladed paring knife. Place the carrot on a flat wooden surface and cut off a very thin slice from one side, as shown. Turn the carrot on this side and cut off another thin slice, as shown.
Continue until the carrot is more or less rectangular like this:
Now split the carrot lengthwise in half. Split each half lengthwise. Gather the four pieces together and chop from right to left, as shown below.
