The toast made in an automatic pop-up toaster is acceptable enough for informal meals such as breakfast, but there are better methods of making toast for special occasions.
One method is to preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Trim away and discard the crust from several slices of bread. Brush the trimmed bread generously with melted butter and arrange the bread, buttered-side up, on a baking sheet. Place in the oven and watch carefully. When the bread is golden, turn the slices and continue baking and watching until properly done.
