A cardboard stiffener, the ordinary kind used by most laundries to protect men’s shirts, is extremely useful in the kitchen. Place a stiffener on a flat surface near the stove when cooking bacon, for example. Cover the cardboard with a sheet of absorbent paper toweling, then add the food to be drained.
