Hanaddy believes in “nefes” in cooking, which means that you must put your soul into cooking — and that the outcome will reflect how you feel. For Hanaady, a good cook is neat, tidy, and works without causing too much chaos in the kitchen. She learned these traits from her mother, elder sister, and aunt, who taught her traditional Syrian recipes as well as dishes from around the world. The ability to cook is important to Hanaddy; as she was learning, Hanaddy put together a notebook of recipes to pass down to her own children, so that they would learn at a younger age than she did.
