Sawsan was born and raised in Damascus, learning from a young age to cook with its colorful and diverse cuisine. She studied French literature at university, but in her free time she focused on cooking, developing her skills by recreating Damascene dishes with her own touch. After Sawsan married and had children, her passion for cooking grew; she combined recipes she learned from her mother, mother-in-law, and television to create her signature recipes.
Once Sawsan moved to Istanbul, she decided to pursue a career in food. Language was a barrier at first, but Sawsan is resilient and enrolled in Turkish language courses as well cooking classes focused on Turkish cuisine. To bolster her skills even more, she took baking classes — she loves to bake cakes, as they combine her love for art and food. Unfortunately Sawsan also developed diabetes during this time. Rather than count that as a setback, she researched healthful food products and gluten-free and vegan cooking techniques so that she can still pursue her passion for baking, but with a slightly more healthful angle. Sawsan would like to open a restaurant or pastry shop that makes alternative products for those on vegan and/or gluten-free diets. Bringing joy to those who taste her food is Sawsan’s ultimate goal.
