  • About
Nicholas performed numerous miracles during his life, but the most famous of all his deeds was the story of the resurrected children that appeared in late medieval times. The legend tells how, in one story a village butcher, in another tale an innkeeper, snatched children, murdered them, chopped them up and placed their remains in curing barrels to sell them off as food. Nicholas supposedly visited the area, which was crippled by a terrible famine, to bring relief to the hungry. But he could see right through what the butcher or innkeeper had done and saved the dead children, resurrecting them by making the sign of the cross.
