As a rule, when I’m cooking a big meal for a dinner party, I do either assembly-only hors d’oeuvres or desserts. I’m not a big baker, and generally you won’t see me making beautiful cakes—except maybe my Great-grandmother’s Angel Food Cake. I just don’t have the patience, especially in the summer. I want yummy, simple desserts with a bit of whimsy that make me feel like a kid again.

To me, there’s absolutely no better sweet treat than the humble s’more. I have so many childhood memories of building a bonfire with my cousins and roasting marshmallows. I like mine to be burnt beyond recognition then sandwiched between the graham crackers with a cheap piece of chocolate. These days, we will go out to the beach and do the same thing … it takes me right back.
