  • About

It is simply impossible not to fall in love with this country, and I seem to have gathered so many stories about Spain that I can’t help but devote several chapters to them. From my very first visit, my passion for this seductive country proved all-consuming. I find the frenetic energy of its people mesmerising, the diversity of its landscapes simply awesome, and the regional character of the food mind-boggling. Wherever you go, the social fabric revolves around food and wine – from the constant grazing at tascas (tapas bars), to the home-cooked feasts with family and friends, and the elegant offerings at the showcase restaurants. It seems that every single person in this country lives, breathes and talks food. Having grown up in suburban Australia, which was devoid of such a depth of cultural or culinary inheritance at the time, I find it all incredibly alluring. I am always brought to life by a glass of rosado in a local tasca, hanging out with my dear Spanish friends Eduardo and Augustin, who now live in Madrid. I thrive on Eduardo’s love of food and all things Spanish.
